Event status:Not started (Register)
Date and time:Wednesday, September 28, 2016 10:00 am
Pacific Daylight Time (San Francisco, GMT-07:00)

Program:
NWGC
Duration:1 hour 30 minutes
Description:
A 2007 Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) study found high levels of copper in Puget Sound marinas—much of it due to the use of antifouling paints. Consequently, the state legislature passed a law in 2011 requiring the phase out of copper-based antifouling paints on recreational vessels less than 65 feet in length by 2020. The law also requires Ecology to evaluate possible alternatives to copper-based paint. To meet this legislative requirement, Ecology is working with Northwest Green Chemistry (NGC) to identify and evaluate alternatives to copper antifouling boat paints. Addressing the presence of copper in antifouling boat paints benefits the environment, boatyards, the fishing industry, and recreational tourism. To learn more about this project, please visit Northwest Green Chemistry's website at http://www.northwestgreenchemistry.org/product-scorecards-antifouling-boat-paint.html

This is the first stakeholder meeting for this project. We will present a general overview of the project, including background, the role of stakeholders, the alternatives assessment method being used, and initial product selection, and solicit feedback.
