Updated safety rules reflect growing Americans

As the federal government updates their safety rules and weight guidelines, they are revising their numbers to reflect the fattening of the nation.

So who is heavier: a) the average bus rider, b) the average boater or c) the average flier?

The answer is the average flier, coming in at 195 pounds in winter clothing and 190 pounds in summer clothing.

The average boater weighs a bit less: 185 pounds, according to the Coast Guard.

While we're at it, the average bus rider is the leanest, weighing 175 pounds.

So how does that measure up to all Americans? The mean average weight is now 194.7 pounds for men and 164.7 pounds for women, according to the National Center for Health Statistics at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
