NMTA event in Port Townsend

NMTA co-hosted a very special evening with the marine trades and NMTA members in Port Townsend. Over 120 people showed up to support recreational boating and NMTA's legislative priority (the Marine Tourism Bill). Just as importantly, Reps. Van De Wege and Tharinger as well as Sen. Hargrove's Legislative Assistant was in attendance to hear from us. The Peninsula Daily News covered the story and here it is (link).

As an angler this is the most important legislative action you can take all year.

In the next few days, your U.S. Senators are expected to vote on the most comprehensive package of sportsmen’s legislation in recent years. Introduced on September 10, 2012, the Sportsmen’s Act of 2012 (S. 3525) includes 15 bills that will benefit the sportfishing community, as well as recreational shooters and hunters. This historic legislation provides for increased access, habitat conservation and improved fish and wildlife management.

With a possible vote within days it is crucial you send a message to your Senator today.

Individual provisions included in this bill that are important to the sportfishing community are: The Hunting, Fishing and Recreational Shooting Protection Act, the National Fish Habitat Conservation Act, and Making Public Land Public Act.

From improving habitat conservation to increasing public access to protecting the use of traditional fishing tackle, this bill would have monumental impacts on anglers and hunters and maintain our conservation heritage. Please voice your support now for this monumental bill!

Go Vote!

If you haven't mailed in your ballot, please do so immediately. Not only will candidates and their campaigns stop calling you but also campaigns can then spend their limited resources targeting voters who haven't voted yet. They have lists that track all of that information. Speaking of tracking, if you live in King County, you can track whether your ballot has been received. I just tried it out and discovered that my signature was illegible. Here's the link: http://info.kingcounty.gov/elections/ballottracker.aspx

Also, if you are wondering who NMTA is supporting for the various races, I'd be glad to share that with you. Just drop me a line (peter@nmta.net) or call me (206.634.0911). Near the top of the ticket, NMTA-endorsed Rob McKenna is running for Governor. NMTA's Political Action Committee has prioritized this race over all the other ones. For more info on Rob, take a look at their site: http://www.robmckenna.org/action

Now stop reading and go vote.
